Project by Joel Gillett
The base is white oak from a tree the bride
helped me cut down when she was a kid. It was huge and she still remembers cutting it. The top is end-grain
apple from a tree that the groom had cut up. I got an end-grain slice of the trunk maybe an inch thick and
broken into three peaces. I resawed the biggest one and book matched it saving bark on the corners.
The matched
slices are ~3/32" thick and laminated to a plywood back. I stabilized the bark by soaking the cambium layer in
super glue until it wouldn't take any more. I filled the inevitable cracks with epoxy that I dyed black.
